COVID-19 Postponement Details
A note from Joe Robinson, Organizer:
I'm sorry to announce the postponement of the 2020 NW Wood Firing Conference, which was to be held June 4-6, 2020, at the Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg, OR.
But I'm excited to announce that NWWFC, as conceived, will simply be moved to the same weekend the following year, June 3-5, 2021. This is the best possible outcome considering the circumstances.
A small group and I have been working almost two years to put the conference together and we're deeply disappointed to postpone, but at this point it's more than obvious this is what's needed to protect our community members and friends. Potters more than many rely on the wisdom of elders and the mixing of people- and it's critical we all work together to keep our friends safe.
There are many details yet to be worked out, but here's where I am so far. Please feel free to reach out with questions, but also please be patient with me as I field an enormous volume of communications about this and several other wood firing events I'm responsible for.
Presenters and Programming
The 2020 conference program will be kept for 2021. For those presenters that want to change topics or are unable to present, arrangements will be made. All agreements and arrangements made this year will be honored next year. Changes to conference programming will be announced as they emerge.
Exhibition Hall and Vendors
Exhibition hall exhibitors will be the same, and will keep their places. If changes are required, individual arrangements can be made.
Juried Show entries will be honored and juried in February 2021. For those who want to swap out their entries already made, a custom coupon code will be provided so that you can make another entry for free (which will cancel your previous entry(s)). For now the jurying portal will stay open. A separate communication for entrants will be sent by August 2020 and will include info about coupon codes and next steps.
Due to the fast moving nature of this situation, concurrent exhibitions are still in flux. Some 2020 exhibitions may still run in abbreviated or online form.
What about a digital conference in 2020?
We may provide a platform for sharing and interaction during the scheduled conference days. It's too early to say, but if you feel strongly about this please reach out via the contact form. Please be patient while I sort a tremendous volume of communication and work to stave off disaster at my own kiln and studio.
Money, Rainchecks, and Refunds
You have several options.
1- Do Nothing. Your conference registration will roll over to next year. The only thing that changes is the date. Please, if you can, do this. This crisis is just that- a crisis- and many conference costs are already sunk. Having to give refunds will create major stress for the East Creek organization at a time we can least afford it.
2- Donate the money. Your support is much appreciated, even if you can't make it to the 2021 conference. And if you happen by, we'll know who you are and let you in.
3- Request a Refund. If you're in a tight spot, we feel that. A cancelation fee applies, per the registration policy, to recover a portion of sunk costs. Email to request a refund.
